POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:             Substitute Bus Driver – District Employee Assigned to Pryor Campus

                           Non-Exempt, Support, Substitute, 10-month Staff

 

Starting Date:      August 10, 2023

 

Reports to:          Maintenance Supervisor

 

Schedule:            Monday through Friday, hours will be intermittent and vary depending upon the assigned bus route. The supervisor retains the right to adjust the work schedule and job description/duties based on the needs of the district.

 

Wage:                  $29.64 per hr.  

Primary

Function:            Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to Being responsible for driving a bus and ensuring the safe transporting of high school students to and from the campus. Additional duties include performing daily bus inspections (pre-trip and post-trip), maintaining order while in transit, following state guidelines, and keeping the bus clean. The bus route position is from Northeast Technology Center to Partner High Schools and back to Northeast Tech up to three times per day, or as directed by Campus Administrator.

 

Education:          High school diploma or GED preferred.

 

Qualifications

Experience:         Must possess a current valid Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate and a school bus/commercial driver’s license; air brake endorsement preferred; pass a national criminal background check with fingerprints and pass a DOT physical exam and drug screening prior to start of employment; have good communication skills, have the ability to give and receive instructions, get along with others, and demonstrate good attendance and punctuality in the workplace; have the physical ability to lift in excess of 40 pounds; be a self-starter and be able to work well without direct supervision, get along well with high school students and possess good people skills. Computer skills are also preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Non-Exempt, Support, Substitute, 10-month Staff

 

TITLE:            SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER

 

Hours:             

Monday through Friday, hours will be intermittent with hours accumulating to approximately 1 to 4 hours/day depending upon the assigned bus route. The supervisor retains the right to adjust the work schedule and job description/duties based on the needs of the district.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with the policies and procedures of the school district and be on duty at assigned times.
  2. Comply with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding student transportation.
  3. Safely transport students between Northeast Technology Center and Partner High Schools up to three times per day, or as directed following the schedule set by the supervisor.
  4. Perform daily bus inspections (pre-trip and post-trip), following state guidelines.
  5. Maintain order while in transit.
  6. Cleaning and upkeep of bus.
  7. Conduct bus evacuation drills as required by State Law.
  8. Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work scheduled and extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.
  9. Any other bus and/or route-related duties assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent.

 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:     

  1. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  2. Must successfully complete a school bus driver course and hold a current valid Oklahoma School Bus Driver’s Certificate as required by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and a valid current Commercial Driver’s License, air brake endorsement preferred, from the State of Oklahoma.
  3. Annual health certificate signed by a physician licensed in Oklahoma attesting that the physician has examined the driver and that the driver has no sign or symptoms of ill health, and is otherwise, from the observation of such physician, physically and mentally capable of safely operating a school bus.
  4. Subject to regular random drug/alcohol/DOT physical testing as well as post-accident testing when federal or state law or board policy requires.
  5. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  6. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  7. Cannot be related to any of the currently seated school board members within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:    

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  3. Must be able to change priorities, and schedules as needed.
  4. Must be capable of being calm and professional with numerous different personalities at various levels.

 

Training and Meeting Requirements:

  1. View or attend required Safety Training either by video or in person on a quarterly basis.
  2. Attend professional development training opportunities as required by district policy.
  3. Attend meetings and provide information to the Administration or Board of Education as requested.

 

Work Environment:

  1. Job is outside while operating and/or inspecting a school bus.
  2. The role may use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical, Mental Demands, and Dependability:

  1. Moderate physical effort is required for example: Assisting students on and off the bus if needed, pre-and post-trip inspections, cleaning the bus, and using required procedures to operate the bus safely.
  2. Performing pre and post-trip inspections and cleaning the bus. These actions will be compensated for a designated length of time depending on the size of the bus.
  3. Must be able to: care for oneself, see, hear, walk, stand, lift, bend, reach, climb, stoop, squat, speak, breathe, learn, read, concentrate, think, and perform work by doing manual tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work scheduled and extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.

 

Reports to:        Maintenance Supervisor

 

Terms of Employment:           

At-will for the first year of employment. After the first year, employment is considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma law. Hourly wage set by the board of education.

 

Annual Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluations.
