POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:             Health Certification Instructor

                           Exempt, Certified, Teacher, Full-Time, 10-month Staff

                           District Position Assigned to Afton Campus

 

Starting Date:      August 1, 2024

 

Reports to:          Campus Director       

 

Schedule:            8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with a 50-minute lunch break.

 

Compensation

Package:             $57,385 to $70,830 annual minimum salary, commensurate with experience. Health, dental, vision, paid life insurance, and teachers’ retirement paid; flexible benefits plan; sick leave, vacation, and paid holidays. Total minimum compensation package approximately $77,385 to 90,830 minimum annually.

Primary

Function:            Instruction, classroom/lab management, discipline, advisory committee, inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, advising student organization, controlling lab projects, ordering and recording the purchase of supplies and equipment, student placement, supporting board policies and growth, public relations, and to represent Northeast Technology Center professionally at all times. Instructors will be working in a team situation with other instructors in training students to have successful trade skills.

 

Education:          Valid Oklahoma or Multi-state Nursing License, minimum of an RN associate degree. Biology Certification to teach Anatomy and Physiology is preferred.

 

Experience:         Five years of experience as a nurse. Experience with patient scheduling, intake, billing, charting, office management and clinical patient care preferred. Must have the ability and skills to develop classroom management and a competency-based, individualized instructional program for adults and secondary students.  Must be able to prepare required reports, and manage records and inventories.  Required to keep current all immunizations, physicals, drug tests, and background checks necessary for clinical work.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Exempt, Certified, Full-Time, 10-Month Staff

 

TITLE:            HEALTH CERTIFICATION INSTRUCTOR

 

Hours:                  8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with a 50-minute lunch break. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by administration.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with state and federal laws policies and procedures of the school district.
  2. Ensure there is a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate for learning in the classroom.
  3. Upgrade teaching techniques, learning styles, and methodologies to deliver current and marketable training to students at a high professional level.
  4. Work cooperatively with staff in a professional manner to develop, promote, and improve educational services for students in desired occupational skill areas.
  5. Teach and perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with district and campus standards and the Board of Education policies and procedures:
    1. Meet and instruct students in assigned classes at the location and times assigned.
    2. Provide individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of instructional techniques.
    3. Teach students the skills and knowledge contained in the course outline to prepare them for related employment and state board exams if applicable.
    4. Use state curriculum material related to the course if applicable.
    5. Use audio-visual material relating to the training.
    6. Use current related resource materials.
    7. Schedule speakers annually from the industry to inform students of the opportunities available.
    8. Update course objectives and outlines as needed to remain current with the industry.
  6. Classroom/Shop/Lab Management:
    1. Organize class time so that classroom instruction, laboratory work, and cleanup activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
    2. Evaluate each student’s performance based on knowledge and skills, and prepare progress reports and employment references for students.
    3. Maintain an accurate record of attendance, absences, tardies, and makeup work for each student.
    4. Maintain a clean and orderly classroom, shop room, storage room, and office space.
    5. Maintain an emergency data file for each student enrolled.
    6. Prepare and submit reports as required by state and local school districts.
    7. Monitor equipment to ensure it is kept in a clean, well-maintained condition.
  7. Discipline:
    1. Organize the daily student assignments in such a manner that it minimizes the necessity for disciplinary action.
    2. Maintain discipline in the classroom and shop.
    3. Control and report infractions of school policy by students outside of the class/lab areas (campus area).
  8. Establish and maintain contact with an advisory committee consisting of area education professionals, business professionals, and other members as needed, and hold and attend the required amount of advisory meetings and reports each year.
  9. Inventory of Tools, Equipment, and Supplies:
    1. Conduct an inventory of tools and equipment before the start of school.
    2. Report lost or broken tools and equipment as soon as they occur.
    3. Keep inventory of supplies at the time of purchase and dispensing.
    4. Prepare for a full formal layout inventory by school administration at the end of the school year.
  10. Advise a Student Organization:
    1. Encourage 100% participation of all students in the program.
    2. Help and guide in the election of class officers.
    3. Help promote activities in the program.
    4. Assist and encourage students in preparing for and participating in contests.
    5. Assist in monitoring student behavior while in transit and during official district, state, and national student organizational activities.
  11. Control Shop/Lap Projects:
    1. Supply work for each student at all times.
    2. Select projects to enhance each student’s training.
    3. Complete all information on contracts, work orders, and service orders before beginning and upon completion of projects or services performed.
  12. Establish and maintain efficient and effective controls for expenditures and produce appropriate requests/purchase orders when ordering and recording the purchase of supplies and materials to the proper repair order.
  13. Student Placement:
    1. Assist qualified students in finding a job in the field in which he or she is trained.
    2. Placement of the completers in related occupations as specified by board policy.
    3. Keep student files containing information to complete follow-up reports and placement assistance.
  14. Public Relations:
    1. Submit news articles on newsworthy events in your program.
    2. Assist in planning and completion of Open House.
    3. Represent the school professionally at all times.
    4. Assist in recruitment efforts for the program.
  15. Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work scheduled and extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.
  16. Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent.

 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:    

  1. Must qualify for a standard or provisional Oklahoma Teaching Certificate as defined by the Oklahoma Department of Education and Oklahoma Department of Career Technology Education.
  2. Valid Oklahoma or Multi-state Nursing License, minimum of an RN Associates Degree.
  3. Biology Certification to teach Anatomy and Physiology is preferred.
  4. Five years of experience as a nurse.
  5. Strong leadership with excellent communications and human relations skills especially with secondary and adult students.
  6. Proficiency in record keeping, prioritizing, and scheduling; ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in the performance of duties; know the importance of confidentiality.
  7. Must have the ability and skills to develop classroom management and a competency-based, individualized instructional program for adults and secondary students.
  8. Must be able to prepare required reports, and manage records and inventories.
  9. Knowledge of current school laws and/or state and federal regulations related to instruction in the classroom is preferred.
  10. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  11. Cannot be related to any of the currently seated school board members within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:   

  1. Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with associated deadlines.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  4. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
  5. Must be capable of being calm and professional with numerous different personalities at various levels within and outside of the classroom.
  6. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.

 

Training and Meeting Requirements:

  1. Attend professional organization conferences as required.
  2. Attend professional development training opportunities as required by district policy.
  3. Attend meetings and provide information to the Campus Director and/or Superintendent as requested.

 

Work Environment:

  1. Operates in a classroom, lab environment, and clinical sites.
  2. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical, Mental Demands, and Dependability:

  1. Required to keep current all immunizations, physicals, drug tests, and background checks necessary for clinical work.
  2. Light physical effort is required for example: setting up the classroom, standing, and teaching from the front of the classroom.
  3. Must have a valid Driver’s License and be capable of local travel, as the driver, using a school vehicle and occasional overnight and extended travel, domestically, by commercial airlines, rental vehicles, and public transportation.
  4. Must be able to: care for oneself, see, hear, walk, stand, lift, bend, reach, climb, stoop, squat, speak, breathe, learn, read, concentrate, think, and perform work by doing manual tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Terms of Employment:           

Temporary contract for the first year of employment.

 

Annual Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluations.
