POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Lead Culinarian
Non-Exempt Support, Full-Time, 10-month Staff
District Employee Assigned to Claremore Campus
Starting Date: August 1, 2025
Reports to: Campus Director
Schedule: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with a half-hour meal break, Monday through Friday each week (schedule may be adjusted by supervisor but will maintain 40 hours per week).
Compensation
Package: $33,309 per year minimum, commensurate with experience. Health, dental, vision, paid life insurance, and teachers’ retirement paid; flexible benefits plan; sick leave, vacation, and paid holidays. The total compensation package of $53,309 minimum per year.
Primary
Function: To promote quality career and technology training by providing a nutritious, economical meal program for students and staff; responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, overseeing the snack bar, including food preparation, food serving, operating the cash register, stocking and cleaning of snack bar facility.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Experience in school or commercial food preparation and service is preferred; must have good communication skills, basic computer skills are preferred. Evidence of skills important to fulfilling the position's responsibilities is important.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Exempt, Non-Certified Support, Full-time, 10-month Staff
TITLE: LEAD CULINARIAN
Hours:
6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with a half-hour meal break. Supervisor retains the right to adjust the work schedule based on needs of the district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with all state, federal laws and, policies, and procedures of the school district.
- Attend professional development training as required.
- Arrange the setup for food items, supplies, serving lines, and/or equipment to ensure that they are provided in accordance with cafeteria requirements.
- Clean utensils, equipment, storage areas, and food preparation and serving areas (e.g., ovens, steamers, fryers, mixers, slicers, freezers, dishes, tableware, kitchen utensils, counters, carts, racks, dishwashing machines, etc.) to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Oversee the operation of the cash register and handles financial transactions in accordance with district policy.
- Evaluate prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature.
- Inspect food items and/or supplies (e.g., items being sent or received from satellite kitchens, vendors, etc.) to verify the quantity and specifications of orders and/or comply with mandated health standards.
- Inventory food, condiments, and supplies to ensure the availability of items.
- Establish and maintain efficient and effective controls for purchasing food and all other supplies necessary in accordance with the adopted procedures and policies for purchasing and inventory controls.
- Prepare and serve food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional requirements, projected meal requirements, and/or requests of students and school personnel.
- Report and coordinate repairs of equipment malfunctions to maintain equipment in safe working order.
- Respond to inquiries from students, staff, and/or parents to provide information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals.
- Work well with others and strive to be a team player.
- Report to work and perform duties promptly and efficiently.
- Supervise culinary staff.
- Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work scheduled and extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.
- Any other responsibilities or duties assigned by the Supervisor or Superintendent.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Five years in school or commercial food preparation and service preferred.
- Must currently hold or be willing to obtain a food handler’s permit through the Oklahoma Department of Health.
- Evidence of skills important to fulfilling the position's responsibilities is important.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
- Cannot be related to currently seated district school board members within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with associated deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
- Must be capable of being calm and professional with numerous different personalities at various levels.
- Must be able to: clean and sanitize kitchen and service area according to state requirements, prepare food items in a commercial style kitchen and handle cash register transactions.
Training and Meeting Requirements:
- View or attend required Safety Training either by video or in person quarterly.
- Attend professional development training opportunities as required by district policy.
- Attend meetings and provide information to the Administration or Board of Education as requested.
Work Environment:
- Job operates in a commercial-style kitchen.
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical, Mental Demands, and Dependability:
- Moderate physical effort is required, for example, preparing meals for large groups and everything associated with the activity, setting up the dining area, and cleaning up after meals. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Must be able to: care for oneself, see, hear, walk, stand, lift, bend, reach, climb, stoop, squat, speak, breathe, learn, read, concentrate, think, and perform work by doing manual tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Reports to: Campus Director
Terms of Employment:
At-will for the first year of employment. After the first year, employment is considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma law.
Annual Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluations.
